Inside the Labs at Duke: A Closer Look at Project Purple-Funded Research

Your support is powering cutting-edge studies aimed at the early detection of pancreatic cancer.

In 2024, Project Purple awarded $350,000 in research grants to support vital pancreatic cancer studies at Duke Cancer Institute. Our team recently traveled to Durham, North Carolina, to see the impact of those grants firsthand – and now we’re sharing that journey with you.

This video features interviews with Duke researchers Dr. Allen, Dr. Kanu, and Dr. Nussbaum, who are studying intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMNs), a known precursor to pancreatic cancer. You’ll also hear how Project Purple’s grant helped continue a human randomized control trial aimed at preventing the progression of pancreatic cancer.

What We Funded at Duke:

  • $150,000 to Dr. Allen for spatial profiling of IPMNs

  • $100,000 to Dr. Kanu for genomic profiling of IPMNs

  • $100,000 to complete the Prevention of Progression to Pancreatic Cancer Trial

These studies have the potential to change lives by unlocking new tools for early detection and risk assessment, and it’s all possible thanks to donors like you.
