Ryan Downey, Project Purple’s Run and Walk Program Manager, stated the importance of this event to the organization. “Being a Connecticut-based non-profit, hosting an event in our very own home state is vital to our mission. Shirts and bibs will be provided to participants on the day of the walk, and participants will have the opportunity to raise funds towards exciting fundraising incentives. There will also be various activities and Project Purple Gear that will be available for purchase.
Project Purple will have a sponsor village that will be open from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM and following the conclusion of the walk as well. The sponsor village will be filled with national and local businesses like Wegman’s, Avelo Airlines, BMW Darien, and the Norwalk Target.
About Project Purple
Steps for a Cure brings local communities together in support of Project Purple’s mission of a world without pancreatic cancer.
Project Purple is a national nonprofit dedicated to fighting pancreatic cancer through research, awareness, and patient support.
Founded in 2010, Project Purple is committed to creating a world without pancreatic cancer while improving care and outcomes for patients and their families. Since its inception, the organization has funded over $5.5 million in research, with a strong emphasis on early detection initiatives. It established the world’s largest high-risk consortium for genetic mutations linked to pancreatic cancer and Nebraska’s first high-risk clinic for pancreatic cancer.
Project Purple’s research support also includes foundational funding for Hartford HealthCare’s High Risk Pancreatic Cancer Screening Program, multiple studies at Duke University School of Medicine, and numerous other groundbreaking projects.
In addition to research, Project Purple has awarded more than $2 million in patient aid, assisting over 2,000 families to focus on treatment and care rather than financial stress.
